Hello

My name is Kellyn LaCour-Conant. I'm an interdisciplinary restoration ecologist based in Louisiana, and working globally. This page is a glimpse into my work, background, and how to get in touch or show your support. Thanks!

Work

From habitat restoration to community organizing - my calling is stewardship, including the human dimensions. We're all part of an intricately connected ecosystem, so I strive to be a good community member by using my skills, abilities, and privileges to better myself and do right by others. My approach to my work is always intersectional, with emphasis on social justice and ecological responsibility. These days my work is largely devoted to:
- advancing grassroots movements for Black Liberation, Indigenous Sovereignty, Global Climate Reparations, and Community Stewardship via my role at Taproot Earth,
- and uplifting Black and Indigenous oral histories and Traditional Ecological Knowledge of Kisatchie National Forest via my dissertation research to inform equitable, sustainable forest management.
Since 2019 I've served as an If/Then Ambassador with the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and I continue to work with their Dialogue on Science, Ethics, and Religion (DoSER) program.
I also serve on several Boards and Committees, including Okla Hina Ikhish Holo, the Water Collaborative of Greater New Orleans, NASEM's Mississippi River Delta Transition Initiative, Louisiana Environmental Education Collective Impact, and FFL's Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation Advisory Council.
Occasionally I'm invited to write or speak for special publications or events.
